My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Max and Kate�had it all until Max's drinking problems drove Kate away in fear of her safety and safety of her unborn child. Eight years on Max is sober and regrets the break up of his marriage. Max doesn't know he is a father so when he runs into Kate�and learns he is a father he is shocked and devastated.

I think Susan Meier did a fantastic job writing about a sensitive issue such as alcoholism and the effects it has on families.

This was one of my favorite books to write and also one of my most responded to books by readers. I love writing about characters with depth and real troubles, even as I get to show that every life has a lighter side!

Kate and Max's daughter, Trisha, doesn't understand adult problems and Max and Kate work to keep her from finding out. What neither expects is that their old love doesn't rekindle. Instead, as two different people, they find a new love.

I hope you enjoy Max and Kate's story of their second chance at love.

sweet contemporary romance

This completely grabbed me from the start! Max and Kate meeting in the lobby of the hospital, and just the few moments they spend there, where Kate realizes Max has stopped drinking, and Max realizes that he has a daughter - WOW!

Max Montgomery is a real-estate mogul, from a rich family; Kate Hunter left him when he was in a drunken stupor, having become an alcoholic after learning a huge family secret. What he didn't know is that Kate was pregnant when she left him, and she was afraid of him because he was breaking furniture and she thought about how it would be to introduce a baby to that kind of life. What Kate didn't know is that Max became sober shortly after she left. When they meet again, it's in the lobby of the hospital, after Kate's dad has a stroke she comes back to help her mother out, and spend some time with both of her parents.

Max is really angry at first when he understands that Kate has kept his daughter from him. At the same time, he can understand her, he knows that he was behaving in ways incompatible with raising a baby at the time she left him.

It is clear from the start that Max is still in love with Kate, although he is upset about only getting to know Trisha when she's seven years old as well. The first meeting between father and daughter is pretty awkward, but it seems so real, exactly how I would imagine a grown man would interact with a little girl who's his daughter, but not knowing her yet, and not having a lot of experience around children.

Because the one thing she hadn't seen the day before when she'd visited him in her beautiful former house was the crystal vase her parents had scrimped and saved to buy as a wedding gift for her and Max (...) To this day he probably didn't even know he'd thrown it against the fireplace and shattered it into a million pieces, along with her heart - and their marriage. This confuses me a little, the crystal vase her parents gave them for their marriage is what actually pushed her to leave? That's a little shallow, and this story has been far from shallow so far!

I really like to see how both Max and Kate are trying to deal with the new versions of each other, but things become a tad melodramatic at times, and that is too bad. They also behave a little bit like insecure teenagers every now and then, and that seems a little strange, since they are both grown ups, secure in their lives and their jobs.

All in all a story I really liked, and I will for sure check out other books by Susan Meier, a sweet, easy romance, with flowing prose is not something I find everyday! I recommend this book to all romance lovers who like to have some humor and drama sprinkled on their story as well.

4 STARS I like how the characters are trying to deal with thier past troubles. They are trying to do whats best for thier daughter, not what they want. Thier are no warnings about the content of this book. I look forward to reading about Max's brother story that is coming soon but not as fast as I want. Max Montgomery had it all but then through his drinking he lost a lot of the good things in his life that he had. Max has been sober for seven years. He has tried to make up for all his past offenses when he was a drunk, except his ex-wife. Max was coming out of the elevator at the hospital and ran into his ex-wife he has not seen for 8 years. Kate Hunter was planning on telling her husband but the night she was going to he came home in a drunken rage. He broke a lot of things, even the front room window. Kate knew she had to protect her baby from Max and his family, so she ran that night. Max went up to Kate and was telling her that he was sorry he ruined thier marriage when another elevator opened up. Trisha came out and called her mom. One look and Max knew she was his daughter. Kate knew she could not afford to fight Max's family,money and all the judges that they helped get into office. Now seeing Max was sober and wanting to be a father Kate agreed he could see her but not alone for now. Kate was not ready to believe him that he was not a drunk any more and so angry. Max wanted to blame her for keeping his daughter a secret for so long but he knew it was him that made those troubles for his marriage. Kate planned to stay with her parents for 3 months and help while her dad was recovering from a stroke. Max had lots of money but knew he could not buy his daughter with expensive presents. I enjoyed reading this book. Seeing where Kate and Max dealing with the past and learning about who they were now. I got this book a while back and figured it was high time it moved up on my review schedule. It was a fast, easy, yet emotional read and I found myself rooting for this family to have a second chance.

Max has been living sober for the last several years. His alcoholism ruined his marriage and he's never gotten over his love for his ex-wife. As fates would have it, he runs into his ex, Kate, and those old sparks are still there. For him at least. Then, he's hit with a huge shock. Not only did Kate leave him, but she was pregnant when she left. She's never told him about the pregnancy, because she didn't know he was sober. So, the couple tries to figure out the best way to ease Max into their lives.

Max and Trisha (his daughter) develop an easy relationship. Max truly loves being her father. The more time he spends with his daughter, the more he sees Kate as well. Their old feelings for each other never went away and they soon find they are trying to figure out what to do about it. Then, old skeletons come out complicating matters further.

With a cast of truly likable characters, I found myself rooting for them to have a second chance. I do believe that they had a deep love for each other. I loved seeing their love being rediscovered. After all, they both had made life changes, but it was sweet to see that they loved each other even more.

This book was a true romance story that was filled with hope, love, and second chances. If you are a romance fan and love a happy ending, this is a great easy read that will capture your heartstrings.

Living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia surrounded by mountains veiled in mist and mystery lends itself well to creating the characters and setting for The Hunter's Moon, and the stories that follow as the series unfolds.Some of the characters and creatures are based on lore I've learned over the years--lore some people swear is true. Others appeared to me, as characters have a way of doing. Out of the mist. A great deal of research and intuition went into writing The Hunter's Moon and the series. I hope you will enjoy it and the stories yet to come. Next is book two,�Curse of the Moon, followed by book three, The Panther Moon I advise reading the series in order.

A Fantastic Start to a New Series

Sixteen-year-old Morgan Daniel and her younger brother Jimmy are on the run again, after having been tracked down by The Panteras—the gang that forced them into witness protection in the first place. Forced to choose between letting Mateo’s goons run them off the road and taking charge of their fate, Morgan purposefully steers the car down an embankment, careening them into a world far wilder than their car ride.

I’ve read a number of Beth Trissel’s books, and I’m always amazed by her creativity. This holds true for The Hunter’s Moon. She takes bits and pieces from a number of different areas, including Native American folklore, pop culture, and the paranormal, throws them in the proverbial pot, and creates her own unique world out of the mix. Her characters are easy to like and relate to (even for an adult like me) and they handle the circumstances in which they find themselves with a mix of the deadly serious and good dose of humor. Morgan’s relationship with her brother Jimmy is and interesting dynamic, especially when Jimmy takes on the occasional role of protector. The blossoming romance between Morgan and Jackson is sweet and I love that the focus is on the innocence of first love—it provides a nice counterpoint to the fear and chaos Morgan and her cohorts encounter.

I wish the story had been longer, but all in all a fantastic start to a new series. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Twilight meets Teen Wolf with a twist

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The Hunter's Moon is a wonderful way for Beth Trissel to introduce her young adult series. It's got something for everyone: romance, action, and a little bit of suspense. I couldn't put it down and finished the whole thing in two days. I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out!

In life a tough, eloquent crusader who demanded that we honor the varieties of human experience, she retained her hold on readers despite the unavailability of much of her work. This edition, then, should be welcomed wherever there is interest in women's, minority, and lesbian literature. It includes Lorde's passionately private early work as well as her later, more obviously political work, bringing together such lovely, small, personal pieces as "Song" ("Strip our loving of dream / pay its secrets to thunder / and ransom me home") and longer, later works such as "Songs from the Moon of Beulah Land," with its rhetorical, oratorical fullness. The completeness of this collection (it includes multiple versions of several poems) may not serve Lorde's reputation as well as a selection might have, since there are patchy sections in her work. This complete and sometimes redundant collection of one of America's greatest poets and voice of her people is magnificent and worth savory. Keep it nearby and let a poem or two sooth your soul, or indeed make you thinking deeply. We lost Audre too early in her life. I wonder what she would be saying today!?

Great for People Who Have Zero Clue about Money Management and Investing

At 36 I'm completely incompetent when it comes to money management--so much so that someone else handles my bill paying, checkbook and other finances. No one ever taught me how to do these things effectively, and my father is just as clueless because my mother always handled those things. But since her brain injury it's been left to him to handle all this, and Pape's book does exactly what it says it will do: give you a good overview and steps in the right direction, even if you're a complete idiot when it comes to money. I read the book first and then my father read it, and now we're putting Scott's suggestions into place. It's a bit of an adventure, but more than anything it's empowering to know that I'm thinking about and planning for my present and future financially. The best part is that while the author "dumbs it down" so that even a novice could understand it, he's pretty wry, very witty and occasionally a bit caustic in a humorous way. That alone makes this much less intimidating and much more enjoyable to read than your typical finance book.

Witty, relevant and realistic

This guy has two feet firmly planted on the twenty-something-year-old ground. He makes a point of starting with a dose of reality: money is only the stuff that gets you where you want to be, so work that out before you spend. He's ideas are no-fuss, practical and quite obvious good sense once you hear his explanations.

He is completely in tune with pop culture and doesn't try to get you money for when you are too old to enjoy it - it's about being smart now so that you can enjoy it soon...and I trust his advice to last me my lifetime.

The best book an Aussie young-adult can read - the first time I've interested enough to make good decisions that have already reaped rewards.

Barefoot and Loving it

This book changed my financial life. I have read many financial reviews, books and recommendations and The Barefoot Investor is the only book that I have enjoyed from start to end and then applied to my own life. The language is fun and the strategies are simple but powerful. This is not a book about money scrimping or getting rich quick - it's a philosophical, holistic approach to finances and life. If you're about to dive into a big financial commitment, this book will help you to step back and look objectively at the big picture.

In response to Soragham's review, I fear he missed the point. This is not an economic textbook intended to delve into the finer points of the subject. It sets out to be "a straight-talking, sexy guide to money that empowers you to get to your goals as quickly as possible" and that's exactly what it is. The cover photograph of a simpering Mr Pape is just the beginning of this book's many charms.

About the Author

A. D. AMAR is Professor of Management at the Stillman School of Business, Seton Hall University. Also Director and Editor of The Mid-Atlantic Journal of Business, he has published more than 50 articles in other periodicals as well. He holds degrees in engineering and management engineering, an MBA from Baruch College, and a doctorate in business from City University of New York. Among his clients as a consultant at various times are General Motors, VW/Audi USA, the Social Security Administration and The Human Resource Administration of the City of New York.
