Primer for Biblical Living

Josh and Sean McDowell's Experience Your Bible is more than just a primer for biblical study; it is a primer for biblical living. By combining strong exegetical study with poignant personal stories of triumph and tragedy, the McDowells show their readers what it means to be the church of Jesus Christ. They introduce their readers to solid expositional approaches to Scripture--none of which are too heady or inaccessible to laypersons--and they teach their readers to teach themselves and others the profound truths of Scripture. As a scholar, I find their work to be very thorough and faithful to the biblical text. As a pastor, I believe Experience Your Bible has incredible potential to shape the lives of countless Christians as they are drawn into a more intimate relationship with God through His Word.

Know God Deeper by Knowing His Word Better

There are two basic types of Bible readers--those who superficially skim the text and those who go deep. Hamilton compares them to two insects. He observed, "One is remarkable for its imposing plumage, which shows in the sunbeams like the dust of gems; as you watch its jaunty gyrations over the fields and its minuet dance from flower to flower, you cannot help admiring its graceful activity, for it is plainly getting over a great deal of ground. But there is another worker ... his fluttering neighbor darts down here and there, and sips elegantly wherever he can find a drop of ready nectar; but this dingy plodder makes a point of alighting everywhere, and wherever he alights he either finds honey or makes it. If the flower-cup be deep, he goes down to the bottom; if its dragon- mouth be shut, he thrusts its lips asunder; and if the nectar be peculiar, he explores all about till he discovers it. . . His rival of the painted velvet wing has no patience for such dull and long-winded details. . . The one died last October. The other is warm in his hive, amidst the fragrant stores he has gathered." An Amazing book

I just picked up Josh and Sean McDowell's Experiencing Your Bible" to do some mentoring with one of my University students. Honestly, I have not found a book in the past that really opened the communication lines between myself and the student I was mentoring. However, within the first few pages....I was going....Wow!, Tremendous,Amazing, I can't believe this! It seems like a lot of books in the Christian venue are just more of the same....however, this book really captures the essence of who the God of the Bible is and how we can experience Him by letting the Word of God speak to us. I would recommend this book as a personal read for a new Christian or a mature Christian. It also lends itself well to mentoring or disciplining another believer. It is a refreshing read for this topic and really sheds a new and biblical light to its readers. I highly recommend this book as a must read for any Christian.
