Based on a remarkable true story of Taj Rowland. Seven-year-old Chellamuthu's life is forever changed when he is kidnapped from his village in India, sold to a Christian orphanage, and then adopted by an unsuspecting couple in the United States. It takes months before the boy can speak enough English to tell his parents that he already has a family back in India. Horrified, they try their best to track down his Indian family, but all avenues lead to dead ends. Meanwhile, they simply love him, change his name to Taj, enroll him in school, make him part of their family--and his story might have ended there had it not been for the pestering questions in his head: Who am I? Why was I taken? How do I get home?More than a decade later, Taj meets Priya, a girl from southern India with surprising ties to his past. Is she the key to unveil the secrets of his childhood or is it too late? And if he does make it back to India, how will he find his family with so few clues? From the best-selling author of The Rent Collector, this is a deeply moving and gripping journey of discovering one's self and the unbreakable family bonds that connect us forever.

HEARTBREAKING, HEARTWARMING, A MUST READ!
By Linda
This book tells the incredible true story of Taj Rowland, who was kidnapped in his youth and sold to an orphanage in India. The corruption and heartbreak in that poverty stricken country and the journey that eventually led him home, is nothing less than miraculous!
This book is an easy read—a beautifully written 'page turner' that's both heartbreaking and heartwarming—a story that definitely needed to be told. Its a story that touches the heart and reminds the reader of the importance of family and the unbreakable bonds that tell us 'who we are' and connect us forever. It's about finding the lost child inside all of us and our innate desire to know we are loved—that we belong.
The spiritual impact of this book will make you a believer in miracles and recognize the life-changing value of finding forgiveness, letting go of anger, and embracing the good that comes with tragedy. There are aspects of Taj's story that will never be known, answers that remain a mystery to this day. Yet, family is where your heart is and the impact of choosing our path and making the best of what we have regardless of what happens to us, is a powerful message of unconditional love and hope. We can choose forgiveness. We can choose to help others less fortunate than us. We can choose happiness.
"Life is resilient. ... it trudges on in the world around us, no matter how deeply our hearts ache." —Camron Wright, The Orphan Keeper
"Perhaps there are times in life when we must simply let go and trust." —Camron Wright, The Orphan Keeper
"He who keeps the orphans keeps them from harm, watches over their lives, their comings and goings. He keeps them like a shepherd keeps his flock." —Camron Wright, The Orphan Keeper

A Great Book Club Read
By KLD2003
I finished this book in two days because it was hard to put down. My book club is now reading it and I expect a great discussion on family relationships, culture vs nurture, and the importance of knowing where we came from. Human trafficking is still going on and if Taj had been kidnapped when he was a little younger he might never have remembered he had a family in India. You will learn a little about East Indian culture and the deep yearning of the the human spirit to find ones true identity.

Compelling story
By Grandma of eight
"The Orphan Keeper" takes the reader from the heart wrenching days of a young boy kidnapped from India to his adjustment to American life. It is a very compelling story of a desire for him to learn who he is and eventually a search for his biological family with very little information available regarding their whereabouts. I appreciate that the author tells this true story without the use of foul language.
