Since My Family and Other Animals is my favorite book of all time, this is just as fun. Watching this young child's interest in science and animals grow amidst his hysterically funny family dynamic is a great diversion for the times. There is another one to get later.

Birds, Beasts and Relatives: An enjoyable book.

I liked this book. It is a report of some of the happenings of a young English boy and his mother, two older brothers and sister on the Greek island of Corfu off the coast of Albania, north west of Greece in the Ionian Sea. It is not mentioned in the book but it seems as though they are on the island for just a few years just prior to the outbreak of World War Two. The boy's interest in Natural Science is interesting but the best parts of the book are the humorous antics of his siblings and their friends. There are several unexplained outcomes in the story that left me wondering what happened. I was unhappy with the ending. It was too abrupt and the letters in the epilogue left a lot of whys and wherefores unexplained.

Here in the sequel to "My Family and other Animals" Durrell paints a romantic and lush picture of Corfu prior to WWII when he and his family lived there .The stories have an authenticity to them, beautiful descriptive paragraphs of the island as it was 70 plus years ago. One gets the feeling that time moves very slowly on Corfu and if you were land there today, it would have changed little from Gerry's stories.

About the Author
Bernt S. Aadnoy is a Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Stavanger in Norway. He started in the oil industry as a trainee for Phillips Petroleum in Odessa, Texas in 1978.� He later worked� for Phillips Ekofisk operations in Norway.� In 1980 he started working for Rogaland Research where he mainly built a full scale offshore drilling rig for research purposes. This facility called Ullrigg still carries out research both in well technology and in rig automation.� Dr. Aadnoy worked for Statoil and Saga Petroleum and�entered his present position in 1994.� He developed the common Well Design Manual for the Norwegian oil companies, which also led to the book Modern Well design in 1996. He has�performed consultancy work for many oil companies, including being an advisor for the Petroleum Safety Authority. In the period 1998-2003 he was adjunct Professor at the University of the Faroe Islands where he built a petroleum engineering program aimed at the coming deep water exploration activities.� In 2009 he was a visiting Professor at the University of Calgary. Professor Aadnoy holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Stavanger Tech, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming, a MS degree in Control�Engineering from the University of Texas and a PhD in Petroleum Rock Mechanics from the Norwegian Institute of Technology.� He has authored more than 120 publications mostly within drilling and rock mechanics but also within reservoir engineering and production.� In addition to Modern Well Design he has also authored�Mechanics of Drilling�and�will soon publish Fundamentals of Rock Mechanics.� He was chief editor for the new SPE book: Advanced Drilling and Well Technology in 2009. Aadnoy� has received numerous awards over the years, amongst them he was the 1999 recipient of the SPE International Drilling Engineering Award.

diets just make you fatter

every woman struggling with weight should read this book. Diets work as long as you stick to them but honestly, who can truly LIVE on a diet the rest of their lives? I for one, enjoy having a piece of cake at a birthday party, pizza on Friday nights and warm home made chocolate chip cookies when my neighbor sends them over, fresh baked. It killed me to watch my family enjoy those treats while I was on a diet...and only made me want them more! When I finally would fall off the diet, I would quickly gain all my weight back(making up for lost treats) and then some. This book is all about getting OFF that diet that only makes you fatter!
