Great dialog, great sex scenes

Having written a cougar romance, I was eager to read another author's take on the subgenre. Karla Doyle knocked it out of the ballpark in Game Plan, her debut novel.

Andie meets Mason when he hits her with a baseball so he'll have an excuse to introduce himself. A mom with responsibilities who's just freed herself from a bad marriage, Andie is more than willing to engage in a romp between the sheets, but forever-after isn't part of her new game plan - especially not with a man ten years younger. Mason, however, has other ideas.

Game Plan has a nice story line, witty dialog and hot, realistic sex scenes. I enjoyed the humor, which frequently made me laugh out loud. Karla Doyle writes well and with a light touch, making this story a pleasure to read. It's five stars all around, but the exceptional dialog and smooth sex scenes especially stand out.

Excellent!!

It is rare to find an author who is capable of telling a well developed story and weave in the hot, erotic sexy bits. Karly Doyle does it well. This is the story of the relationship between Andie, a forty year old divorcee and Mason, a younger man, a veteranarian. Even the secondary characters are well defined. A great read. I am now stalking Ms. Doyle and looking for all her other work. She's my new favorite author!!

A very pleasant surprise

I really wasn't sure what to expect as EC seems all over. This is in the "sophisticate" category, which I think means the older crowd? Anyway, the cougar trope isn't really my favorite so I put it off. Man, imagine my surprise when near the beginning it turns scooorching hot. I hope my 40's go something like this because it was hotter than a lot of 20-something erotic romance I read. Nice hot sex and lots of it, which just enough emotion and personality to keep it all interesting. It's actually quite long, but never lets up the hotness. Just when I thought that's all there was (and I wasn't going to complain, mind you) I got some lovely angst at the end. Well rounded, well written and really hot, Game Plan is a prime specimen of contemporary erotic romance.

An indispensible text for serious practioners

This is not a how-to, it is a how-to-understand. I own multiple editions of this book starting with the 3rd, when many of the examples referred to RBase. It won't tell you, with simple color diagrams and cut-and-paste examples, how to optimize your Oracle SQL queries or tune your DB/2 engine, but it will teach you the underlying principles of relational databases, from which the serious professional will be able to extrapolate. If you have the intelligence and stomach for it and you actually read it, it will serve you much better than the SQL in 24 hours picture books that some reviewers seem to be looking for -- it is a timeless and effective conceptual work on the subject that spans the evolution of commercial product implementations. Dilitantes and desperadoes, head for the Dummies aisle -- this one's not for you.

An Introduction for Software Engineers, not Users

Sorry, no full-color graphics, and no included disk full of fill-in-the-blank examples and wizards to build your contact list. This is an old-fashioned academic tome, not a how-to book or thinly-disguised marketing tool for some commercial database system.
I suppose the biggest criticism I could make of this book is that it overestimates the target audience. Unfortunately, many who see the title of this book assume that it will teach them how to work with current database products such as Oracle, or maybe SQL Server and Access. No, this book doesn't show you how to create an invoicing system for your bicycle shop, or a web content management system. What it will show you is the conceptual underpinning of the relational data model, how to understand relational database systems in general (not everything is SQL, you know), and provide some heavy insight into how relational databases should be designed.
In that sense, it can be considered an "introductory" book for software engineers, who might themselves create a new database management system. It can also be considered introductory for database administrators and systems programmers who are looking to expand their knowledge beyond the product-specific practical methods they have been exposed to. In other words, if you just want to know "how things are done" in your industry, don't read this book. If you want some insights into how things COULD be done much better, you might want to read this book.
So, while I might not recommend this book to a junior programmer tasked with creating his/her first web-based ordering system, I might recommend it to the company DBA or systems architect. Even more, I would recommend this book to anyone studying C/C++, and looking to start a career in software engineering, possibly to help create new database systems. This book doesn't discuss specific implementation in C++ or anything like that but it provides an excellent target feature set and language spec for development, as well as a clarification of the formal logic behind relational database management.

Best theoretical book on Database design ever!

I read this book for training as a senior DBA consultant and enjoyed CJ Date's excellent treatise on databases. This is the ultimate book on database theory. Like another reader commented its not how to get OCP/MCDBA whatever certifications but actually will make life better in the long run as a serious DBA pro. I now actually understand the basis of complex database topics such as cursors, data models, and concurrency/locking topics that previously are skimmed over in other books and training guides. Best book for a beginner and yeah its a bit dry and academic but CJ Date writes clearly. A MUST FOR SERIOUS COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS!

Hamilton tells her own story, though in many places the narrative sounds more like it's from an adult's perspective--perhaps from an adult coauthor. It begins with the moment a giant white shark chomps off her arm. She then goes back to discuss the events leading up to the attack and to describe what her life was like before the tragedy--home-schooling in a strong Christian household and lots of competitive surfing. Hamilton's account is suffused with her feelings for God and His impact in her life. Perhaps because of this relationship, she never seems depressed about her situation; in fact, she is surfing again. The inset of color photos offers further insight into Hamilton's life. Best, Most Inspiring Book, EVER!!!!

This book is the best book ever! Totally my favorite! Bethany does a great job explaining everything, and recalling details from her family and friends that she wasn't there for. I've read this book like 5 times already and have watched the movie somewhere around three times, and yet I never get bored of it! The story was told by Bethany, in Bethany's point of few, in other words (first person). There wasn't anything inappropriate, which is probably why the movie is rated PG. The only violence was at the point of the attack, besides that only minor violence, like the bumping of surfboards or the stealing of waves. But the best thing I find about the books is that at the end, there are pictures of the real Bethany and here real family, because in the book chapters themselves there are no pictures. The real pictures are really cool, and then you can watch the movie and see what the actors looked tike and how things were different from the book. Anyway, thank you for reading this book! ENJOY! :D

Way better than the movie

After watching the movie, I couldn't help remembering TV interviews given by Bethany Hamilton and wondering if the movie was actually about the same person. The book, written in her own voice, is believable and inspiring. As I read the book, I was surprised that the shark attack and the ensuing inconvenience of learning how to live with one arm did not dominate the story. Her story is more the story of a humble teenage girl who suddenly finds herself thrust into fame. Her attitude is admirable, and anyone who reads it can learn from her example...no matter how old they are.

A Book with a Soul

Everyone may know already that this is the book about the 13 year-old surfer who lost her arm because of a shark attack. What they should also know is that this book was meant to be read by people of almost every age starting at 9 or 10 years old. Its language is accessible to fifth, sixth, and seventh graders. I'm actually using it in the classroom, and I have students talking about life lessons that Bethany shares: about being good team players, good losers, patient, and courageous in the face of adversity. In addition, we cover reading comprehension skills, such as main idea, author's purpose, drawing inferences, paragraph types, vocabulary, and grammar skills. Readers also get to know about Bethany's family, which is so important to her strong-willed nature. She goes into great details explaining how her parents and brothers helped develop her courageous character to be able to sustain a quite "tragic" incident. Courage in a 13-year-old child doesn't come out of the blue. Family and faith make the difference. This book is good not only if you plan to use it in the classroom, it's to be read by anyone who wants to find out the true source of courage. No need for self-help books with this one. It's down to earth and her description of family life and community life gives us the basics for overcoming obstacles and being successful - no quick gimmicks here. It's well written. The vocabulary and sentence structure of the book are appropriate for middle school students. Highly recommended.

Comprehensive and Technical

This textbook lays first the background about the core concepts of the Cloud Computing; namely, the Parallel & Distributed Computing and the Virtualization. Then, the authors reveal the concept of Cloud Computing in d�tail. In addition, the authors explain a CC environment: Aneka. Therefore, the reader may skip the first part if it is well known and target Part 2 directly about CC.
This book is excellent in laying the course syllabus about CC in universities for both senior levels Undergrads and postgraduate students.
In addition, the language style is easy. There are many figures which are self-explanatory.
I strongly recommend this book.
