Seekers of revelatory tales, insights, and experiences that enhance rather than obscure the Lizard King mosaic will relish this account. Kennealy, a practicing witch and author ( The Hawk's Gray Feather , LJ 3/15/90), met Morrison during her stint as editor of Jazz and Pop in 1969. Until his death in 1971, Kennealy and Morrison pursued a physically, emotionally, and spiritually intense relationship, the symbolic culmination of which was their exchange of Celtic wedding vows. Kennealy is brutally honest about everything: her witchcraft; her pregnancy by Morrison and subsequent abortion; the codependent, convoluted relationship between Morrison and Pamela Courson; Courson's significant role in Morrison's heroin-induced death; and the cinematic travesty perpetrated by Oliver Stone in his recent movie The Doors (1991). Throughout, Kennealy vents her Celtic spleen, rages, weeps, and exalts in her love for and by Morrison, while weaving a beautiful tapestry of their short but seemingly eternal spiritual bond. In the process, she illuminates Morrison the lover, poet, and artist. The recent flock of Morrison biographies and picture books are pretenders to the insights and perspectives offered here.

Narcissistic memoir of, mostly, a love affair with Jim Morrison. When Kennealy met the rock star in the third-to-last year of his life, they shook hands and there was a ``visible shower of bright blue sparks.'' ``What are you?'' Morrison asked. Kennealy replied that she was a witch--a Celtic high priestess (recently, Kennealy has written several Celtic-themed sword-and-sorcery sagas: The Silver Branch, 1988, etc.). Then, she says, she and Morrison were married by her Celtic coven--and, in a ``blaze of love and passion ignited,'' they consummated their union six times in two hours. Morrison (who never lived with Kennealy during their year of wedlock) is a nebulous presence here, impossible to visualize by manner or by the romance-novel speeches supplied for him, and appears mostly as a foil to the Kennealy ego--which is queen-sized. It is also imperious (``[the Woodstock crowd was] some Third World country--one with no food, pidgin speech patterns, indifferent latrine habits, even native handicrafts...if one more person says to me `Good vibes, huh?' I am going to punch him/her in the mouth''); disingenuous (despite taking acid, pot, cocaine, codeine, Valium, and numerous other drugs, Kennealy claims that she was ``not an addict''); vehement (her rival for Morrison's affections was a ``slut, a junkie, a whore, and possibly a murderess''); and bombastic (at book's end, Kennealy interviews herself ``because nobody else ever asks me the right fucking questions, okay?''). A bull in a music store

I-slept-with-a-rock-star stories are a dime a dozen in the rock bio world, and it takes something unusual to make the storyteller seem like anything but a groupie. Patricia Kennealy-Morrison has something all right, but her obnoxious attitude and sketchy details make it hard to regard "Strange Days: My Life With And Without Jim Morrison" as much more than a curiosity.
Kennealy-Morrison was a journalist/editor working for Jazz'n'Pop magazine in the late 1960s. She was sent in to interview legendary rock bad boy Jim Morrison of the Doors, and was immediately impressed by him (the feeling was mutual, she says). They soon struck up a friendship, then became lovers while remaining on opposite sides of the United States.
Morrison and Kennealy-Morrison wed in a witch handfasting some months later, despite the fact that Morrison was still with his longtime lover Pamela Courson. Kennealy-Morrison chronicles the remainder of their increasingly volatile relationship, her abortion, Morrison's mysterious death in Paris, and the production of the distorted movie adaptation by Oliver Stone.
Never has so much been written over so little. Not very often, anyway. Morrison's brief involvement with Kennealy-Morrison is blown up into an affair to rival Guinevere and Lancelot (her own comparison). What an unbiased reader sees is a rather average rock romance, full of the necessary sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. And lots and lots of Kennealy-Morrison's everyday life.
Kennealy-Morrison has a curiously self-centered view of the world: whenever anybody is less than friendly to her, they must be upset over her gender, brains, religion or relationship with Morrison. Her attitude (a bull getting ready to charge at a matador) wears thin quickly. She heaps scorn on almost all rock'n'roll stars, on any girl who slept (or wanted to) with Jim, on any friend of Pamela Courson's, on Doors fans, on rock audiences... pretty much everybody. Special vitriol is reserved for Pam; rather than take Morrison to task for his behavior, Kennealy-Morrison vents on the pleasant, clueless Courson.
While Kennealy-Morrison is clearly knowledgeable, she seems to use her IQ solely to set herself above the groupies. She lacks the class, wisdom and vibrance of other rock paramours like Marianne Faithfull. If this book is anything to go by, her intellect is stagnant and unsophisticated, and her personality is childish (she beats a groupie for coming on to Jim). In fact, her claims that she's a strong, decisive, take-no-guff woman becomes funny when you see that she was allowing a ridiculous amount of garbage from Morrison. There's no denying that Kennealy-Morrison is a talented writer. At times her lyrical, detailed writing makes this seem almost like a novel. It's especially vibrant during scenes like Doors concerts and the famous Woodstock. But too often her words are used as arrows rather than paintbrushes.
"Strange Days: My Life With And Without Jim Morrison" is a weird read. In the end, it's hard to see it as anything but Kennealy-Morrison's side of the story, but without any wisdom brought by time and thought. This is not the place to look for the "real" Jim Morrison.

This woman is belligerent, obnoxious, delusional, angry, over-bearing, and a self proffesed know-it-all. If Morrison spent even half the time with her that she alleges, he must have been a very patient and tolerant individual. Or comatosed on booze. I read a third of the book and had to toss it because I couldn't tolerate her. She is so bitter, angry, and pushy, that she strikes me as one who would have been a consummate nag.

I have a suspicion that in reality she was just one of hundreds of convenient pit stops Morrison made while drunk. I also am left with the strong feeling that she knows this to be the case hence her flitting between love and deep rage toward this man. Unlike his other pit-stops, she can't let it go for some odd reasoning that only she knows. For some reason she seems obsessed with convincing the world that she has laid claim to the guy and nobody else should even have the right to mention his name.

She has a deep rage toward anybody who is not a Morrison fan. But she off-sets that by also having a deep rage toward anybody who is a Morrison fan. So in essence she has a deep rage toward everybody.

She seems to be jealously guarding this image of Morrison that exists only her mind. Hence her hatred for Doors fans. As for her referring to 'Doorzoids' as 'losers' that's ridiculous, coming from a woman who is obssesed and jealous of a relationship between a man and a woman who have been been dead for alomost 40 years. If anybody needs to get a life it is Miss Kennealy who does.

This woman is obviously not the person whom she is trying to convince the world that she is.... She's more like a nightmare run amuk.

A Sad, Obsessed Woman Who Took An Affair Too Far!

I don't even know where to begin. I read an awful lot of Morrison books and most of them are open, honest and well written. There is no doubt in my mind that he had an affair with Patricia (as he did with many, many other women) but she is clearly an obsessed, disturbed stalker. If you look at the crazy website of hers, you yourself with see the hatred she has towards anyone who even doubts her! She calls people low-life Doorzoids (in both the book & her website), Pamheads and many other nasty names. Like she is now in competition with his fans also. This lady has the nerve to interview herself at the end calling Pamela (Jim's longtime real 'cosmic mate') a slut, junkie, prostitute and murder. How sick is that! She also belittles Oliver Stone (for his movie 'The Doors') while she actually has a cameo role in it. Basically, she puts down anyone and everyone who loves Jim or who is smart and logical enough to realize Pam was his true love! You don't need a mensa member (which she supposedly is) to figure out who the true love of Jim's life is (and it certainly wasn't this freak). If you want the truth behind his loves; read Patricia Butler's, Angels Dance & Angels Die or another sweet book by Judy Hudleston called This Is The End; Living & Dying With Jim Morrison. They both show honest accounts about women involved in his life. Patricia Keneally is obviously a hateful woman who never had the sweetness or beauty of Pamela (or any other woman of Jim's) and therefore she is clearly obsessed and out to get even with the world. THIS BOOK DOES NOT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR!!!

Great Insights - Another masterpiece from Brett!

Our times are very unique indeed and especially in the context of today's dynamic environment, where frequent technology led innovations are disrupting the retail banking & payment industry like never before. In this background, many of our assumptions, predictions and analysis of this industry can quickly become outdated and is therefore necessary to constantly revisit them more often out of sheer necessity, so as to be on top of things quickly and steer one's organisation successfully.

Brett's book therefore is very timely and can be used to vet one's strategy and fine tune as required based on the fresh data that he is presenting. I especially liked his approach of seeking inputs / data from the key players directly & presenting them in an interview format, thereby helping the readers to do their own assessment as well and in turn agree/disagree with Brett's interpretation and his views.

A good sequel to Bank 2.0 and Bank 3.0

Interesting read on the changes in banking due to the disruption caused by Fintech. If you work with banks and/ or credit unions, this is a must read. The book provides plenty of insight on the current climate and future change due to the Fintech disruption. A good sequel to Bank 2.0 and Bank 3.0. I bought this for my sales teams so that they could be better prepared for conversations with the C-Suites at our credit union partners.

Interesting but a form of interviews does not make it too concise

Book for people interested in fintech. Some interesting case studies, but overall could be half the size if it was a typical book not collections of interviews with introductions and summaries. I would expect more for this price of a book. Case studies like mBank were missing. Mentioned American banks are really not that innovative in comparison to what you can see e.g. In Poland

Performing Earlier Music

Many musicians and scholars have tried to determine how early instrumental music was actually performed. One person, Arnold Dolmetsch, used a novel idea to discover how music of the 17th and 18th centuries could be performed with at least some authenticity. He realized that since every musician was a performer, teacher and composer, and every musician wrote manuals describing how to play various instruments, he would only need to visit various libraries and other storehouses of old music to gain the materials he would need to further his quest.
By examining countless manuals written by teachers for their students, Dolmetsch discovered that there was a certain way to perform a trill, an appogiatura, a turn, etc., and that in many cases there was almost complete agreement on how to play these "graces" over a certain period of time. Furthermore, he immediately found that performance practices of his time (the nineteenth century) had changed.
As a result of his scholarly research, as demonstrated in his book, The Interpretation of Music of the17th and 18th Centuries, anyone can gain
a better idea of how the music of those centuries was actually performed. A completely "new" approach to the baroque and classical eras had been uncovered.
Meanwhile, there is still some unrest on the part of traditionalists who want to use 19th century performance practices. As far as this listener is concerned, it's up to the individual performer to decide: Do you want to stick to today's contemporary practices, or do you want to hew as closely as possible to the older, but more correct way of playing? Without this book, you'll never be able to determine which way is best.

Highlight of this book is troubleshooting part, all the feature troubleshooting is explained with Wireshark traces and NetScaler counters, which did not find in any book or document in detail as this book.

In this chapter I found “Request switching and connection multiplexing” very interesting and author explained it very nicely, how this feature works and improves the performance of NetScaler.
Very well explained about different modes of NetScaler, pros and cons of each mode and when to enable/disable them.

Which covers commonly used load balancing methods, when to use which method and what are the factors to consider before deciding the LB type.

When comes to cert based auth author explained what is certificate, types of certificate and how they are validated. What to look when authentication failing with NetScaler system counter nsconmsg.
Kerberos protocol explanation is awesome which covers deployment options, configuration checklist and authentication flow explained with traces which I did not find in most of the books, this would help admin in implementing an troubleshooting.
SAMAL protocol also explained very well with Fiddler traces for better understanding of the flow and what to look when auth fails

Until I read this book I had lots of confusion about NSVLAN, tagging options, LACP and NIC buffer, all the networking concepts are explained with examples and when to use them.
This covers HA in details, ports used by NetScaler in HA, how RPC password plays important role in HA. Different stats of HA and meaning of the same.
How to identify the failover event, What logs and counters to check when HA hertbeats are not seen on the devices. Issues caused by ARP, GARP and Split-brain conditions.
Last but not least HA syn issues also covered log analysis and NetScaler packet handling with HA is enabled is explained with flow chard for easy understanding.

Now I don’t need to remember the whole command as I can tweak the command using syntaxes based on the output.

A fantastic read

I read this book whilst I was studying for my honors in Arts. That was quite a few years ago, and I would have to reread the book to write a review that would do it justice. At the time, I found many enlightening and surprising ideas encapsulated in the writing, many of which went some way to explaining some of my experiences as a female in contemporary Western society.

Here is a reflection I wrote a while back.

Experience has taught me that women are considered as the glue to any social system. They are what holds it together, despite the cracks that inevitably start to develop within any political or social system. Philosopher Moira Gatens says that patriarchy considers women as the dogs outside the city gates, warning the real humans, the males inside the city, of any approaching dangers, by their howling.

The non-human status of the female citizen might be understood, in my view, through a slightly different analogy, which is that in terms of how society holds itself together, women are often taken to be the "glue".

Glue has a certain texture -- it is viscous (mushy) and transforms its shape to fit between existing hard shapes to hold them together. The hard shapes are not supposed to adapt to fit the "glue" -- which wouldn't make any sense -- but rather vice versa.

I find that generally within political and social systems, women are expected to be the glue. If there is a crack in the system, a systemic quality of dysfunction within it, women can be used to hide this. One can appeal, for instance, to women's supposedly volatile nature and claim that they caused the cracks appearing in the system. That way, the system can just go on, dysfunctional as it is, with women's "nature" acting as the glue. Of course women do not really have the negative emotional attributes ascribed to them, but it is necessary for those who would maintain a system of male domination to say that they do, since they want to use women as "glue".

AN EXCEPTIONALLY BROAD COLLECTION OF WRITINGS

This 2000 collection contains essays and excerpts from a large variety of writers and scholars, such as "classic" sources from Frederick Douglass; W.E.B. DuBois; Booker T. Washington; Marcus Garvey; Martin Luther King, Jr.; Malcolm X; to Afrocentrists such as Molefi K. Asante; Maulana Karenga; Amiri Baraka; to contemporary philosophers such as Cornel West; Kwame Anthony Appiah; Naomi Zack; Lewis Gordon; Patricia Hill Collins; Howard McGary; Alain Locke; Michele Moody-Adams; to "womanist" thinkers such as Cheryl J. Sanders and Delores Williams.

The editors state in the Preface, "The fundamental idea behind this collection is to provide the instructor with a sufficient quantity, breadth, and diversity of materials to be the sole text for a course on African American philosophy... We believe, then, that we have put together a collection that is comprehensive, balanced, and diverse. It stresses the vitality of contemporary African American intellectual debate but does not ignore the nineteenth- and early twentieth-century origins of today's controversies."

"Discrimination on the basis of race, then, need not be immoral. It is discrimination AGAINST people because of their racial assignment that cannot but be immoral." (Pg. 39)
"It is important to note that (Maulana) Karenga has reformed his position on women. Apparently, he used the time he spent in jail during the 1970s effectively by spending much of his time studying... Indeed, I find the change in his position on women impressive. Although he remains mired in heterosexist assumptions and never acknowledges his change of heart, he drops his explicit arguments supporting the subordination of women. The new Ron Karenga argues for equality in the heterosexual pair despite his continued hostility to feminists." (Pg. 190)
"(Alice) Walker offers her own term womanist as a preferred alternative to lesbian in the context of black culture. Her concern is to find a word that affirms connectedness rather than separation..." (Pg. 438)
